Speaker: Ian Bitterlin, Chief Technical Officer, Prism Power Limited
With a BA in Mathematics, a First Class BSc(Hons) in Technology, a postgraduate Diploma in Design & Innovation and an Honorary Doctorate in Management, Ian's career has taken him from the design office through site installation, application engineering, service and sales to General Management. Ian is currently studying in his spare time for a Masters degree in Architecture.
From the early 70s an engineering position with Schindler (lifts & escalators) led to various sales and sales management positions with Demag (rotating machines and variable speed drives). During this time Ian wrote numerous technical papers on the subject of variable speed drive systems in the material handling industry and presented them at international conferences including Hanover and Chicago, as well as the UK. By 1990 he had been appointed to the position of Divisional Manager.
Moving to Anton Piller (manufacturers of static, rotary & diesel UPS) as Sales Director was the start of his long involvement within the critical power and cooling industry. This led to several posts within the Emerson organisation: UK General Manager for Liebert, moving on to Sales & Marketing Director, Power Products for EMEA based in Milan and, lastly, as Managing Director of Emerson Network Power Ltd. Around the millennium two years were spent as CTO with ICW Power, an integrated system house for critical power & cooling solutions, where Ian produced innovative design solutions for numerous Internet Data Centre clients.
Since 2000 appointments include VP EMEA and Asia Pacific for Active Power, International Sales Director for Chloride and, in 2008, as CTO of Prism Power Ltd - a specialist switchgear manufacturer and the exclusive UK provider of innovative rotary-diesel UPS systems manufactured by KST of Belgium.
As a regular speaker and author, technical papers on critical power and cooling have been presented at European conferences in London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Paris, Warsaw, Budapest, Benalmedina, Madrid and Barcelona whilst, further afield, conference presentations and keynote speeches have been made in Johannesburg, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Seoul.
Ian was a co-author for the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers publication Guide K, Electricity in Buildings, in two chapters; UPS Systems and MV Switchgear.
In 2009 Ian was awarded with the 'Outstanding Contribution to Data Centre Industry' by Data Centres Europe at their annual London Conference.
Ian is a Chartered Engineer and Member of several UK Engineering Institutions, including Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, Institute of Engineering and Technology (formally the Institute of Electrical Engineers), the British Computer Society and the British Institute of Facility Managers as well as being a member of TUI, AFCOM and the IEEE.
